Case Study: Sugar Hill Elementary School

Name: Sugar Hill Elementary School

Type of School: Public School

Location: Gwinnett County, Georgia

Number of Students: Approx. 1,200

Sugar Hill Elementary School saw a technology need in their school. Throughout the pandemic, they learned about how effective technology use was for their students. Between August 2020 to January 2021, Sugar Hill purchased over 400 devices, however they have approx. 1,200 students. They needed an easy and effective way to raise funds so that each student at Sugar Hill Elementary School could have their own Chromebook. The Changemaker Initiative was the fundraising momentum that they needed to get their community involved.

Sugar Hill Elementary School partnered with Sugar Hill PTO to create the 1:1 Initiative. One Chromebook for every child. They ran a 2 week long promotion initiative with daily announcements, videos with skit characters, and email communication and flyers to parents and families in the school community. They encouraged their families to become Changemakers for the school by simply donating their digital spare change, however they encouraged the families that could not make a donation to share it with a friend, co-worker, or family member that would be willing to support Sugar Hill.

Sugar Hill Elementary School is excited about the impact that The Changemaker Initiative has made on their school. Over the course of 1 year, Sugar Hill Elementary School will net approximately $40,000 in profit. The staff and PTO at Sugar Hill are THANKFUL because this initiative was so simple and easy for them to execute. Sugar Hill Elementary School is looking forward to how the funds from The Changemaker Initiative will impact the future of their students.
